I Ran Over 15 miles to parkrun... And Missed the Start! Training for Leeds Marathon - Myrtle parkrun

My marathon training for Leeds Marathon hasn't been the best. I have been so busy with work that I haven't really upped my mileage to the extent that I usually would. I had volunteered to lead a hike on the Sunday two-weeks before the marathon meaning I couldn't do my long slow run on the Sunday morning as I planned. That meant I needed to do a long run on the Saturday... Which meant it had to be combined with parkrun. My plan was to run to Bingley to run Myrtle parkrun. It would be around 15 miles and so with parkrun would do as a long training run for marathon distance (I haven't run any real distance since the Yorkshire Marathon in October!). I set off super early... Although it turned out to not be early enough! The plan was to run all the way to Bingley on the Leeds Liverpool Canal, pretty flat and most importantly - traffic free! A lovely long run! There was also the option of bailing early and going to Roberts Park parkrun in Saltaire if I was slower than planned. Unfortunately I got my timings slightly wrong and I missed the start of parkrun! To be honest the last hour of my run was pretty stressful as I wasn't sure if I would make it or not! And then the last 15 minutes was really stressful as I realised that I wasn't going to make it! Miles in the legs though and a happy ending so a morning well spent. Huge thanks to the team at Myrtle parkrun for a fantastic parkrun and for being so incredibly kind to us! And thanks to Rob for the lift home!
