At the beginning of their life together, lovers feel as if they cannot bear to spend a day apart, but after a while, their feelings cool so much that they can no longer even look at each other. Something similar happens in monastic life: initially, God is the center of all thoughts and feelings, but with a cooling of the heart, laziness and indifference to everything that so recently filled the heart with fire appear. A person seems to lose their love. Life seems meaningless and empty. Everything falls apart. Inspiration deserts even a person engaged in creative work. The flow of ideas, once seemingly endless, dries up. Everything a person lived by loses meaning, nothing brings them joy, and everything they do is forced. To "reanimate" their heart, some begin to seek thrills, others stimulate the heart's burning with drugs. But on these paths, a person not only fails to find themselves, but ultimately loses themselves. They find themselves in darkness. What can one do to restore the heart's burning? How can one search for inspiration without drugs?
