Africa’s Economy Is Growing, But Not Fast Enough

The African Development Bank says Africa needs growth of more than 7% every year, sustained for decades, if the continent wants to create enough jobs and reduce poverty significantly. But Reuters recently reported that Africa’s growth is expected to slow from 4.4% in 2025 to 4.2% in 2026. So what is standing in the way? In this video, we look at the real barriers holding Africa back, from electricity access and infrastructure gaps, to debt pressure, weak intra-African trade, raw material exports, fuel prices, and poor governance. We also look at how these pressures show up differently in countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Somalia, and South Africa. The question is not only whether Africa is growing. The question is whether Africa is growing fast enough, fairly enough, and in a way ordinary people can actually feel. What do you think is blocking Africa more: the global system, or failures inside African countries themselves?
