► From their arrival in the capital under the Directory to their departure into exile after the fall of the Empire, the Bonapartes profoundly marked the Parisian landscape. Prestigious residences, private mansions, art galleries: through their homes, an entire dynasty on the rise sought to inscribe its power in stone. This lecture invites you to rediscover these often overlooked places—the Hôtel de Beauharnais, Hôtel de Brienne, Hôtel de Charost, Hôtel Fesch, Hôtel Marbeuf, Hôtel Maurepas, and even the Élysée Palace—where political ambitions, family strategies, and artistic tastes intersected. By following the paths of the members of the imperial family, we see how architecture became a true language of representation, adapting the legacy of the aristocratic townhouse to the demands of a new elite: that of the Empire.
