The mysterious plant managed to continue its existence as an ornamental plant in a few private gardens in Europe. Botanists had been searching for the lost tulip, whose photograph was featured on the cover of the Turkish Plants List book, for many years. Scientists and travelers had been searching for it for years. Ercan Eftelioğlu, a doorman in a building in the city center, went on a nature trip with his friends on the weekend. Eftelioğlu, 51, known for his interest in flowers, came across a flower resembling the photographs of the lost tulip that scientists and travelers had been searching for for years, photographed it, and ensured that expert botanists were contacted. After examining the photos sent to them, Salih Sercan Kanoğlu, the director of the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden, shared the situation with Prof. Dr. İsmail Eker, a faculty member of the Biology Department at Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University's Faculty of Science and Literature.
