The Files of Jeffrey Jones – Killer Bait 1954 | Hard-Boiled Private-Eye Noir action.

The Files of Jeffrey Jones is an American crime drama produced by Lindsley Parsons Productions, which aired in syndication from 1954 to 1955. The series was developed in response to the success of The Cases of Eddie Drake—a detective show originally filmed by CBS but sold to the DuMont Television Network, where it became an unexpected hit. Ironically, both series starred Don Haggerty, whose tough, no-nonsense screen presence made him a natural fit for the hard-boiled detective genre. To meet the growing demand for gritty, streetwise crime stories, CBS followed with The Files of Jeffrey Jones as a new take on the private-eye formula. Starring Don Haggerty as street-smart investigator Jeffrey Jones, the series captures the atmosphere of early television noir—a world of dark alleys, smoky bars, and moral gray areas. Jones keeps his office inside a Hollywood tavern called The Golden Bubble, where his friend Joe the bartender offers advice and insight as each new case unfolds. From this shadowy headquarters, Jones battles racketeers, counterfeiters, and killers in the underworld of postwar Los Angeles. In this episode, “Killer Bait” (Episode 29), Jones becomes ensnared in a deadly web of gangsters, counterfeit money, and murder, where every clue could be his last. Cast: Don Haggerty, Tristram Coffin, Frank Sully, Helen Chapman, Johnny Downs, Paul Bryar, Connie Cezon, Paul Dubov, and Mickey Simpson. Originally syndicated: 1954–1955. Delayed release, filmed in 1952. Preserved and digitally remastered from 16mm film by Moviecraft Inc. Restored and presented by Moviecraft Inc. — preserving the shadows and stories of lost television history.
