031 - Redox Reactions In this video Paul Andersen explains how redox reactions are driven by the movement of electrons from the substance that is oxidized to the substance that is reduced. Oxidation is the loss of electrons and reduction is the gaining of electrons. Since electrons are not normally displayed in a chemical equation oxidation numbers are important in determining what atom is oxidize and what atom is reduced.
