The game is not perfect. Combat can be clunky at times, and the fetch quest can get repetitive after a while. But for $40 you'll get a full 10-15 hour experience that is fun overall. As far as story goes, it's an intriguing concept and setting, however, the execution in the storytelling is lacking. This is not the type of game that shows you the story, but expects you to find it and piece it together as you go. In that regard, it's a lot like Bioshock, however Bioshock is leagues better in setting an atmosphere and creating an interesting world to explore. Here's the basic premise: a terrible cataclysm on Earth has forced a mass migration of survivors to a desert world called Far Eden. They must terraform the planet to make livable in the long term. In order to accomplish this, they set their robots to do the job, and have their engineers periodically wake up from Cryo sleep to make sure everything is going alright. You are Joule, and everything is not right. And thus your adventure begins to discover what is going on. It's an excellent set up for a story, but it doesn't fully deliver on that front. It makes sense the game is designed this way, considering the mystery of the story, as well as the fact that many important members of the Metroid Prime team created this game. But even with those faults, at the $40 price, the game is more than worth a playthrough in our opinion. Combat is exciting, the characters are interesting, the open world is huge, and Far Eden is beautiful. As always we used relevant dialogue, important gameplay and all cutscenes to show a fluid cinematic experience.
