Cerebral Palsy and Somatic Re-Education
Thomas is a 10 year-old boy who is is challenged with Cerebral palsy, a motor dysfunction that is caused by damage to motor centres in the brain. There is no clear cure for Cerebral palsy—there is still very little known about what therapies are most effective to treat it. Somatic movement re-education is one contemporary pathway to help children with Cerebral palsy regain body awareness and motor skills. Somatics is a field which is approaches movement re-education with holistically with an focus on a child's internal world of sensations. Here at the Spiral Movement Center, we use a paradigm called Spiral Praxis, a cutting-edge somatic system to help children like Thomas regain their internal functioning. Our therapy is creative, painless and non-invasive. It is combines bodywork, massage, motor re-education and play to provide children with a fun and highly motivating environment to stimulate their natural desire to move.
