I went up to the nearby observation deck, "Sora no Hiroba" (Sky Plaza). The weather was cloudy, but it didn't affect the view much, and I was able to see a beautiful night view. Since some areas were closed due to an event, I went down to the riverside to get a closer look at Bandai Bridge. The lights reflecting on the river surface were also beautiful 😊! You can enjoy the night view perfectly well even without going up to the observation deck. On a clear day, though, I think the observation deck would be great to catch the sunset! After enjoying the night view, I headed to "Mikazuki" in search of Niigata's soul food for my "sauna meal." They are famous for a dish called "Italian," which is yakisoba (stir-fried noodles) topped with a tomato sauce. I love regional specialties that aren't available nationwide, so this was very intriguing! On the first floor of the Bus Center, where Mikazuki is located, you'll also find "Bandai Soba," famous for its "Bus Center Curry," so choose whichever you prefer! Before heading back to the hotel, I stopped by the local supermarket, "Harashin." Why is it that visiting a local supermarket while traveling is so much fun? 😊 Harashin had a great selection of local products, and out of all the supermarkets I stop at on my trips, this was one of my favorites! Since it's a quick ride on a bike, I recommend using the local share cycle service to get there. I dropped off my luggage at the hotel and rushed over to "CoCoLo," the shopping complex inside Niigata Station. I went souvenir hunting, and Niigata Station has all the classic staples, plus limited-edition items from familiar brands like Bourbon and Bakauke. It was so much fun just browsing! Plus, if you shop with a JRE Card, you get a 3.5% points return, making it highly recommended for anyone using the "Dokokani Viewn!" ticket package. Speaking of Niigata Station, "Ponshukan" is also a popular spot for tourists! I'm not a big drinker, so I hesitated, but I decided to go when I heard they had plum wine (umeshu)! There were far more types of sake than I expected, and everyone was enjoying searching for their perfect bottle. They only had two types of umeshu, but there were other sweet sakes that were just as good as plum wine, so even I, who doesn't typically drink sake, had a wonderful time! You can also enjoy shopping at Ponshukan, so please make sure to allow yourself plenty of time! 😊 Feeling a little tipsy, I returned to the hotel. My hotel this time was, of course, my favorite, "Dormy Inn." The building felt a little old, like a one-room apartment, but it was renovated in April 2025, and the large public bath and other facilities were very clean. The bath was a spacious hot spring, which was great, but I was personally disappointed that the women's sauna wasn't a high-temperature type 😔. The breakfast, packed with local specialty dishes, was very satisfying 😊. I checked out a little early and spent the last few minutes shopping at CoCoLo. The Engawa Oshi-Sushi (flounder fin pressed sushi) Ekiben I bought at Niigata Station for my journey home was delicious, so I highly recommend it if you love engawa! Although it was a short 2-day, 1-night trip, it was a wonderful and much-needed getaway. See you again on the next "Mom's Getaway!"
