LTV's New Old Film - Fitchburg Historical Society 1941 Film Presentation

Leominster Access Television and its Center for Archival Media Preservation (LTV-CAMP) present LTV’s New Old Film – The Fitchburg Historical Society’s 1941 Film footage of Fitchburg, MA. LTV Moving and Still Image Preservation Specialist Jack Celli and Producer Carl Piermarini present a look at the LTV-CAMP digitally transferred and restored original 16mm film recording, focusing on the city of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. This film was shot in November of 1941 by professional cinematographers on 16mm silent film, just a few weeks prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Funded by local merchant Leo McManus and produced as a popular entertainment venue of the time called “See yourself and your town at the movies,” this recording captures the pre-war industrial city of Fitchburg, its churches, schools, factories and citizens both at work and play. A small portion of this footage was first seen in December of 1941 in movie theaters, and that same portion was seen again in the early 1980’s in a presentation hosted by Fitchburg resident and radio host Ray C, but most of the original footage shot in 1941 has never been seen, until now. Presented here in a digitally restored high definition transfer by LTV captured directly from the original print, along with a period music soundtrack from that era for presentation enhancement and educational purposes only.
