TRIBUNAL ORDENA DETENCIÓN DOMICILIARIA PARA ZÚÑIGA

A court ordered house arrest for former Army commander Juan José Zúñiga after two years of pretrial detention in connection with the alleged coup attempt of June 26, 2014. The former general, the main suspect accused by the government of Luis Arce of leading the military uprising, will be subject to alternative measures: house arrest, periodic appearances before the Public Prosecutor's Office, and payment of bail. His lawyer, Eduardo León, reported that these requirements will be met within 72 hours. Zúñiga had been held at the El Abra prison in Cochabamba. On Monday, he was transferred to La Paz to testify before the court and participate in the cessation hearing. While his release is being finalized, he will be housed at the San Pedro prison.
