روایت شاهدان ـ آنچه پشت درهای بسته زندانها در ایران گذشت
Seyyed Abbas Torabi - Political Prisoner for Eight Years - 1960 to 1968 - Part One I, Abbas Torabi, am from Sistan and Baluchestan Province and was born in Zabol County. I received my diploma in 1975. On the advice of my brother, who was a final year student at Tehran University at the time, I took the entrance exam. I was accepted to several majors and universities, but as far as I remember, I was finally accepted to the Faculty of Statistics and Informatics and entered the university. In the same place where we lived, I studied and had limited political activities with a few other students. In the first year, I was not very familiar with political activities, but from the second year, my activities increased. At that time, I was still unfamiliar with the organization and we only worked under the name "Fighting Students". We would get various books and distribute them among the students. We also had a library and a bookstore owned by those guys. We would bring some books that were illegally printed there and make them available for others to print and read. This process continued until 1977. In that year, a student from the same faculty who had previously been imprisoned returned to continue his studies after being released from prison. When I talked to him, he told me about his memories of his time in prison. It was there that I first heard the names of Massoud Rajavi and Musa Khiabani and realized that they were leaders of the Mojahedin Organization. He gave me a very brief history of the organization, but at that time I was not familiar with or knowledgeable about this subject. Until we achieved the victory of the revolution. I participated in all the demonstrations. I was present in the street demonstrations in Tehran and in the activities and protests that were held at the Faculty of Statistics and Informatics and the University of Tehran. I attended every call that was announced, without exception. After the victory of the revolution, which coincided with my final year of studies, I became more familiar with the organization. When my brother first began giving lectures at Tehran University, I attended those meetings. Those lectures were very interesting to me, and from then on, I gradually became closer to the organization. After completing my studies, I graduated from university in 1979. They announced to us that we would have to go to military service. We were sent to the 06th Farahabad Barracks for training. In that barrack, almost all of us were duty officers, and each group had its own signboard; including the Mojahedin Organization, the Fadaei guerrillas, and other groups. In practice, most of the management of affairs was in our own hands, and the barrack commander could not practically interfere much. A council was formed by us that organized and managed the guard schedule and other affairs of the barrack. At that time, presidential elections were held, and my brother was a candidate. I was still in the Farahabad barracks and in training, but I was constantly going to our college association, doing activities, and returning to the barracks. Even though our duty was round the clock, we would go out over the barracks wall and return after doing activities. Until they told me that I had to go to Zabol and deliver some leaflets, organization announcements, and advertisements related to the presidential elections to the children of Zabol. At that time, I was a soldier and had to be present at the barracks round the clock, but my mission was to deliver these leaflets to Zabol. I could not travel by personal means, because the round trip would take several days. Finally, I borrowed some money from a friend, bought a plane ticket, and went to Zahedan with the leaflets. From there, I also drove to Zabol. Even though I didn’t have leave from the barracks, we went out over the wall and left them with our friends to make sure I wasn’t recorded absent. After arriving in Zabul, when I went to the association to hand over the tracts, they told me that I had to distribute them myself, because they were busy with other things and didn’t have the time to do so. I asked them where I should distribute the tracts. They said I should go to an area near the border called “Dost Mohammad Khan.” At that time it was a village, and now I don’t know if it has become a city. They told me to distribute the tracts in that area. I was worried that I would have to return as soon as possible so that there would be no problems with my service. We went to Dost Mohammad Khan by car with one or two of the children. There were a large number of Baluch and Afghan residents in that area, due to its proximity to the Afghan border. We distributed all the tracts. Whenever anyone asked what these were, we would explain that they were related to the presidential elections and the candidate of the Mojahedin Organization and give a brief explanation about it. After finishing work, I immediately said that I had to go back as so...
