I decluttered sentimental items at 61. This is what I learned.

Decluttering sentimental items can be one of the hardest parts of letting go. At 61, I finally faced the photographs and albums I had avoided for years, and discovered that not every memory is ready to be decided. I began with my own LIFE Decluttered Method, hoping it would give me the structure to move forward. But as I worked through the memories, I discovered that sentimental clutter is different from ordinary clutter. Some things cannot be sorted with a simple keep, donate, or discard decision. This became a reflection on grief, memories, wabi sabi, and the permission to let an unfinished decision remain unfinished for a little while longer. If you have photographs, letters, family heirlooms, or other memories you’ve been avoiding, I hope this video helps you begin without forcing yourself to finish before you’re ready. Do you have an emotionally charged decluttering project that has been waiting for you? Let me know in the comments! A note for my fellow ARMY: This video was quietly inspired by BTS and Life Goes On... the reminder that even through grief, change, and seasons we never expected to enter, life keeps moving forward. While sorting through the photographs my mom left behind, I realized that moving on doesn’t mean leaving someone behind, and letting go of an object doesn’t mean letting go of the love attached to it. Sometimes we carry our memories differently, and sometimes we give ourselves permission to leave a few decisions unfinished. If you’re navigating loss, change, or a new chapter of life, I hope this video reminds you that your heart can hold the past while still making room for what comes next. 💜 _________________________________ ✨ JOIN THE COMMUNITY 💜 Join our moai (channel membership):    / @danafindwell   🥰 Support the channel, not expected but always appreciated: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/danafind... _________________________________ ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 – The declutter I’ve been putting off for years 01:03 – My "LIFE Decluttered" Method 01:42 – Identifying the 6 categories 02:45 – The "Messy Middle" (and Sven’s chair trap) 04:23 – The "Pause Rule" for sentimental items 06:29 – Sorting with my brother, Guy 08:32 – Finding Wabi-Sabi in the imperfect past 10:03 – Why the photo albums were different 12:57 – Lessons from Swedish Death Cleaning 14:24 – Life is an "arrow in the blue sky" 16:32 – Embracing who you are becoming 19:06 – Experiences vs. Stuff: My BTS realization 21:07 – The photo my mom carried for years 23:18 – Making "breathing room" for what comes _________________________________ 🌿 RESOURCES & SLOW LIVING 💌 Join my newsletter (slow living & wellness after 50): https://pensight.com/x/danafindwell 📖 LIFE Decluttered Guide (free download): https://pensight.com/x/danafindwell ✨ 1 on 1 Clarity Sessions (decluttering & slow living): https://pensight.com/x/danafindwell 📋 Slow living playlist:    • Slow Living for an Intentional Life   _________________________________ 🛍️ SHOP MY FAVORITES #ad As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.
