You Don't Know What Love Is - Al McLean & Lex French
In this instalment of Jazz, Period., we find saxophonist Al McLean joined on stage by Montreal based Lex French for a trumpet feature. Lex is playing a 101 year old presentation grade trumpet, and he cuts a beautiful ballad on the small bore horn. Both French and McLean are playing into vintage ribbon microphone, French a 1950's RCA 77-DX, and McLean on a 1953 Toshiba Type A (RCA 44-A clone). The two are backed up by drummer Jim Doxas, bassist Adrian Vedady and pianist Pierre Francois. Filmed at Diese Onze Jazz Club in Montreal, April 7, 2017. Audio and filming by Randy Cole.
