The story behind Burns Night | Michael Portillo

The Scottish poet Robbie Burns was born over 260 years ago on the 25th January. Every year, Scots all over the world celebrate his birthday with a traditional Burns night supper of Haggis, neeps and tatties, all washed down with plenty of whiskey. The haggis is traditionally brought in by a piper, and Burns' famous poem, Address to a Haggis, is recited over the dish, after which the haggis is ceremoniously sliced in two. Never one to miss out on a good supper and a celebration, Michael Portillo went along to the Boisdale Scottish restaurant in London to meet Ranald MacDonald and discover the stories behind Burns Night.
