Stephanie Mills on Playing Dorothy in OG 'The Wiz', Why Diana Ross Was Cast for the Film (Part 1)

She also recalled not wanting to audition for The Wiz out of fear of rejection but eventually landed the role as a 17-year-old. According to Stephanie, she initially ended up landing the leading role as Dorothy but explained the reason why she wasn't cast as Dorothy in the live action version is because Diana Ross wanted the role. From there, Stephanie and Shawn Prez engage in a friendly debate about Diana Ross and Beyonce. Stephanie argues that Diana Ross represents royalty, R&B and class personified while Beyonce is from a different generation that is more associate with hip-hop.
