This documentary covers Townes' life from birth, through college, and up to his untimely passing on New Years Day of 1997. The documentary sheds light on Townes' early years and some of his formative experiences... some of which are quite fascinating, and others downright scary. To say Townes' life was a wild ride is a definite understatement. Ben Bullington and Darrell Scott Ben Bullington was a prolific songwriter from here in Montana and his work is as real as real gets. Ben was a doctor and in his off time he wrote songs; he was obsessed with words and song... this is very apparent on the choices that he would make for song lyrics. Listening to a Ben Bullington song is like hopping in a time machine that takes you to the exact time and place the is song is about. His guitar work is simply beautiful, and his songs tell stories in an elegantly literal manner. The way in which he paints detailed pictures of seemingly simple landscapes is an art of which he is very much a master. Not to mention his voice, which fits the songs like a glove. Darrell Scott has written some of the most iconic songs in popular music. Songs such as "Long Time Gone" made famous by the Dixie Chicks, along with "It's a Great Day to Be Alive" sung by Travis Tritt all came from Darell Scott's pen as well as many many others. This though is only one facet of Darrell Scott. From his playing to his singing, to the constant variations of his songs, as well as his writing, this songwriter is one that is about as prolific as they get. His songs weave tales in an effortless manner, and as a listener, you are always in for a wild musical and lyrical ride. Dimarzio Black Angel Pickup Magnetic soundhole pickups for acoustic guitar can really be hit or miss. Some can be inexpensive and sound puny, others can be way expensive and sound only ok, but this one sits right in the middle and needs to be known by guitar geeks en masse. The Dimarzio Black Angel soundhole pickup is one that is impressive in both the price and sonic quality categories. This pickup was released back in 2015. I have been able to spend a good amount of time with this pickup and I am very much impressed by its performance and flexibility. This magnetic soundhole pickup has a great balance of brilliance and clarity along with a solid dose of string body. It is super easy to install, as you can put it in temporarily or have it permanently installed, and it happens to fall at a price point that in my opinion is very much a sweet spot. For right around $150-$175 you get a pickup that sounds great by itself and is extremely well prepared to interface with another pickup you may have.
