Easiest Dessert in Portugal?🇵🇹 Well, We Tried...🤣

Hello Amigas and Amigas in this beautiful day🫡🇵🇹 This time, instead of hunting down another Portuguese dish at a restaurant, we decided to bring Portugal into our own kitchen. So today, my wife and I took on one of Portugal's most beloved desserts: Bolo de Bolacha — the famous Portuguese biscuit cake that somehow manages to be simple and complicated at the same time🤣 🔥 No oven ☕ Lots of coffee 🍪 Plenty of Maria biscuits 😅 A little bit of kitchen chaos We made it at home in Cascais, layering coffee-soaked biscuits with a rich buttercream filling, trying our best not to eat half of the ingredients before the cake even made it to the fridge (that's Andre speaking 🤣). We drifted a bit from the original recipe and also added whipped cream, which was very resistant to whipping. What you need if you want to make it yourself: 🍪 Maria Biscuits — the classic biscuit found in almost every Portuguese household. Simple and absolutely essential for this dessert. ☕ Strong Coffee— because Bolo de Bolacha without coffee would be like Portugal without pastel de nata. Rich, bold, and responsible for that incredible flavor. 🧈 Traditional Butter Cream— made with butter, sugar, and egg yolks. Not exactly light... but absolutely worth it. 🥄 A Touch of Whipped Cream — our little twist to make the filling smoother, softer. Building the cake was fun and took about an hour. Layer after layer of biscuits, cream, coffee, and optimism until it finally started looking like a Portuguese dessert. Well, in our mind😁 The hardest part? Waiting. This cake needs several hours in the fridge, preferably overnight. Which sounds easy until you're opening the fridge every twenty minutes just to "check on it." The next day came the real test. The first slice. The moment where every homemade dessert either becomes a masterpiece... or a beautiful disaster. Thankfully, this one was okay, BUT, I filmed impressions and a couple of days later I realized I don't have the footage. So, we made another one, correcting our previous "mistakes." I bought different whipped cream, and it whipped better, and we whisked butter for longer. Result after 2nd try: The biscuits had softened perfectly, the coffee aroma was incredible, and the layers came together into something that tasted far more impressive than the effort required to make it. Now I completely understand why generations of Portuguese families keep making this dessert. Simple ingredients. No complicated techniques. When you know what you are doing🤣 Just tradition and a lot of flavor and a lot of calories.
