At first, the builders lived in neighboring villages: Liman, Andreyevka and Novaya Yegorovka. The first street of the settlement — Druzhby Street — was built in 1957. That same year, a second street appeared next to Lake Liman, called Ozdorovitelnaya. In 1958, the Zmievskaya-Komsomolskaya GRES station was built on the railway. On December 31, 1960, the first power unit with a capacity of 200 MW was put into operation at the Zmievskaya GRES. By 1966, the population was 10.3 thousand people. The settlement had the Zmievskaya GRES, two secondary schools, a Palace of Culture, a library, a nursery, a 350-bed hospital, a consumer services center, a TV studio, a stadium and two sports grounds. Since 1960, the settlement has been gasified. In 1972, the population increased to 11.8 thousand people. The settlement included the Zmievskaya State District Power Plant, a construction parts plant, a plant for assembly blanks, a dairy plant, a bakery, and a vegetable growing state farm. In January 1989, the population was 15,871 people. In May 1995, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a decision to privatize the Yugzapadenergostroy trust's ATP, the experimental mechanical plant, and the experimental electrical installation plant, located in the settlement, and in July of the same year, a decision was made to privatize the vegetable growing state farm. In 2002, the director of the Zmievskaya vegetable factory illegally transferred the enterprise's main production assets to the authorized capital of fictitious firms that did not actually conduct business. In June 2004, bankruptcy proceedings were initiated against the factory, and in August of the same year, it was declared bankrupt. As of January 1, 2013, the population was 14,776 people. During decommunization in February 2016, the urban-type settlement of Komsomolskoye was renamed to the urban-type settlement of Slobozhanskoye.
