Journalist Anaí Torres, director of the news website En Primera San Luis, reported that she faces an arrest warrant in San Luis Potosí stemming from an accusation related to the dissemination of a video allegedly manipulated with artificial intelligence, in which a message attributed to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) is directed against Governor Ricardo Gallardo. According to Torres, she neither created nor shared the material, but is part of a group of 10 people targeted under the so-called law against the misuse of artificial intelligence, approved by the local Congress with votes from the Green Party and Morena. The journalist accused the government of using this law as a form of “censorship” against critical journalists, noting that three people have already been imprisoned and one remains in custody. She also stated that the charges have been instigated by Governor Ricardo Gallardo, his wife, Senator Ruth González Silva, and other officials, and therefore requested that the Supreme Court review the constitutional challenge filed against this reform to the state Penal Code.
