When perching turns fatal: safeguarding Kenya's Majestic Raptors

Wildlife is part of Kenya’s heritage and a critical component of the country’s tourism sector. On the other hand, adequate and reliable electricity supply is a key driver of livelihoods and economic prosperity of our nation. Yet amidst this reality, electrocution of wildlife accounts for approximately 50% of reported cases of power outages, with electrocution of birds alone accounting for approximately 30% of these. Kenya Power has taken a proactive role to reverse these statistics and promote peaceful co-existence between wildlife and electricity distribution infrastructure, especially with the rapid expansion of the national grid to cater for growing demand for electricity.
