South Africa's Bala Brothers on Breaking Racial Barriers, Their Music, and Meeting Nelson Mandela

From the dusty streets of Kwa-Nabuhle township to a stadium-rocking performance at the 2013 Nelson Mandela Memorial Concert in Cape Town, the Bala Brothers have taken South Africa by storm. Older brother Zwai Bala made history as the first black member of the famous Drakensberg Boys Choir, during apartheid. His younger brothers Loyiso and Phelo followed in his footsteps. Only coming together recently to perform as a trio, they've released their first album together. They sing "Something Inside so Strong" and "Lion King" in studio. "For us, singing is not just about entertaining people, but it's about spreading a message, a positive one. And we got that from when we were very young." -Loyiso Bala Credits: Executive Producer & Host Mimi Geerges Director Hank Montez Camera & Lighting Léo Guillemin Kenneth Homick Editing Léo Guillemin Intro Graphics Thomas Wilbur Production Assistants Larissa Costa Veridiana Jordao Make-Up Mena Childs
