These recordings document Davis’ journey as a singular bandleader, featuring John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones, with appearances across the era by artists including Sonny Rollins, Tommy Flanagan, and Art Taylor. From “My Funny Valentine” to “Surrey With the Fringe on Top,” and bebop staples like “Woody ’n You” and “Salt Peanuts,” Davis’ small groups reshaped modern jazz. All audio has been transferred from original analog tapes and restored by Plangent Processes, with essays by GRAMMY®-winner Ashley Kahn, plus track notes by Dan Morgenstern.
