It also serves as the main station for KAI Operation Area 2 (Daop 2) administering the area of Bandung and #Priangan. The station, which is located at an altitude of +709 meters, is the main station for the Bandung metropolitan area in West Java in the management of Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area II of Bandung and KAI Commuter. Initially, this station only had one station building; but after being repaired by the Bandung City Government, this station is now divided into two parts and remains in one area. This station serves executive class and mostly mixed class intercity trains to various destinations in Java. Since 2014, #BandungRaya and #Cibatu local trains were not served at the north exit of the station, but are only served at the south exit. This is in order to improve services to passengers and prospective passengers at this station. This station is also known as the terminal for share taxis (Indonesian: Angkutan Kota or Angkot) because this station is also used as a stopover for many angkot to various destinations. Bandung station, like other major railway stations has supporting facilities and infrastructure for train operation. It has a passenger coach warehouse (west side of the station), locomotive warehouse (northwestern side of the station), turntable (western side of the station), reservation ticket building (northern station) and cargo area (southern part). Headquarters of the Operational Area 2 are located to the south of this station. Kereta ini melayani rute Garut—Bandung—#Purwakarta dan sebaliknya. Per 25 Maret 2022, relasi kereta ini diperpanjang sampai stasiun Garut sehingga namanya berganti dari Kereta api lokal Cibatu menjadi Kereta api Garut Cibatuan. Kereta api Garut Cibatuan melintasi wilayah persawahan dan pegunungan dari Garut hingga Kiaracondong dan dari wilayah #Padalarang hingga Purwakarta. Dalam perjalanannya, kereta ini melalui beberapa jembatan kereta api terutama jembatan aktif terpanjang yaitu Jembatan #Cikubang dan jembatan tertinggi di Indonesia yaitu Jembatan #Cisomang dan juga sebuah terowongan, yaitu Terowongan #Sasaksaat.
