Papo Saúde - Saúde do homem

This week's Health Chat focuses on men's health. Long excluded from health promotion campaigns, "exempted" from responsibility for self-care, or considered more susceptible to developing risky behaviors, men have become distanced from primary healthcare services. The effects can be seen in various comparative studies with women, which indicate that men are more vulnerable to diseases, especially serious and chronic illnesses, and have a life expectancy that is, on average, seven years shorter. We have listed some health care tips divided by age groups to facilitate the approach, but we emphasize that this is only a way to start the dialogue and bring men closer to the topic of health. The National Policy for Comprehensive Men's Health Care was launched in 2009 and serves as a guide in this project of breaking taboos and changing the culture. The goal is to broaden reflections and understanding about health and citizenship in a relaxed way, without losing focus on the public interest and the relevance of the proposed discussions. Health professionals, educators, and the general public can contribute by sharing and disseminating the production, sending us suggestions for topics, tips, corrections, and criticisms.
