Return to Death Valley - Base Camp Ballarat
We meet up with a great group of people in Ballarat ghost town in Panamint Valley to start a multi-day Death Valley adventure. After arriving at camp late at night, we woke up early the next morning eager to explore the small ghost town and cemetery. I examined the crumbling earthen walls of the old buildings, noticing how they were gradually eroding back into the desert landscape. Noelle and I decide to explore Pleasant Canyon, which starts just east of the ghost town and make our way up to the ridge for a view of Death Valley from above. Along the way we find remnants of old mines and cabins including Claire's Cabin, and the Worldbeater mining cabin. At the top of the ridge, we discovered a monument dedicated to the group of 'lost 49ers,' whose perilous journey through this area led to the naming of Death Valley.
