TRIBUN-VIDEO.COM - The Chromebook case involving former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim has sparked strong reactions from several Indonesian celebrities. They questioned the legal justice and expressed open support for the former Gojek boss. The most prominent support came from Dian Sastrowardoyo and DJ Donny via their personal accounts. Reporting from several celebrity accounts, Dian Sastro was seen posting on her Instagram story on Friday (May 15). In the post, Dian posted a statement after Nadiem received an 18-year prison sentence. The actress from the film "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta" (What's Up With Love) questioned the legal assessment of policies taken in good faith. "Good faith policy judgment? The government never works with perfect information and perfect institutions," Dian wrote. Meanwhile, actress Maudy Ayunda also appeared to repost an article about the current public confusion regarding the law. In a post on her story, the Perahu Kertas singer revealed her heart was shattered for Indonesia after hearing the court's verdict against Nadiem Makarim. "My heart is shattered for Indonesia and the talented and meaningful little people in this country," Maudy wrote on Thursday (May 14, 2026). Similar support came from dancer Inul Daratista, who admitted she had been approached to become a member of parliament but declined. She expressed gratitude because she was worried about being used as a scapegoat and being wronged. Even so, Inul asked Nadiem to remain patient in facing the legal process. Director Ernest Prakasa also weighed in, admitting he was confused because the charges against Nadiem were considered heavier than those for murder. "How can the charges be heavier than murder?" Ernest wrote on his story. Another comment came from DJ Donny. In his post, DJ Donny made a scathing comment, alluding to karma. He criticized law enforcement officials who had wronged Nadiem for their actions and said they would receive retribution from God. The Central Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Nadiem Makarim to 18 years in prison on Wednesday (May 13, 2026). In addition to the prison sentence, Nadiem was ordered to pay a fine of Rp 1 billion, or serve 190 days in prison. Nadiem was also ordered to pay restitution of Rp 809 billion and Rp 4.87 trillion, or serve 9 years in prison. On the other hand, Nadiem Makarim expressed disappointment with the verdict because he claimed the court's charges were not proven.
