Economist and leader of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), Ysrael Abreu, stated that opposition organizations must build a broad alliance to challenge the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) in the 2028 elections. During an interview on the morning news program "Su Mundo," Abreu argued that a division within the opposition could favor the ruling party's continued hold on power and suggested that leaders such as Miguel Vargas, Leonel Fernández, Danilo Medina, and other political figures must reach agreements to present competitive candidates. The economist also questioned the management of public finances, the growth of the debt, and the use of loans to cover current expenses. He asserted that the government must make transparent the formula used to set fuel prices and review the tax burden stipulated in the Hydrocarbons Law. Abreu denounced that Dominican consumers are paying a surcharge of between RD$30 and RD$40 on some fuels, while certain economic sectors and officials receive exemptions, subsidies, and fuel financed with public funds.
