This is a 4K drone aerial video of the sulfur mine "Matsuo Mine" in Matsuo Village (now Hachimantai City), Iwate Prefecture, and its employee dormitories, Midorigaoka Apartment, Shiseiryo, Katsuraryo, and Goryo. Sulfur was mined in earnest at this mine from around the beginning of the 20th century, and at one point accounted for 30% of Japan's sulfur production and 15% of pyrite production, boasting the largest output in the East. A mining town with a population of more than 10,000 people was formed at an altitude of about 900 meters, lined with reinforced concrete houses equipped with state-of-the-art flush toilets and central heating. It was also called "paradise above the clouds". In addition to an increase in sulfur imports, demand for sulfur ore plummeted as sulfur became available as a by-product of petroleum production.
