New Romney bells Centenary Peal attempt of Grandsire Triples16 Jan 2012
On Tuesday January 16th January 1912, the local New Romney bellringers rang a peal on the church bells of 5040 Grandsire Triples (JJ Parker's 12-part). Exactly 100 years later, the evening of Monday 16th January 2012, eight members of the Romney Marsh & District Guild of ringers met at the church and ascended the tower. They attempted exactly the same peal, but the attempt had to restart after 15 minutes of ringing. The second time we rang for an hour and a half, but again the attempt failed, so sadly we had to admit defeat, but at least we made an attempt at marking the Centenary. The recording featured here is of the first 15 minute attempt.
