After several years of construction and postponement of the deadline, the last section of the S1 expressway towards Slovakia was opened on 23 October 2025 - the bypass of the village of Węgierska Górka. This 8.5 km new section has several flyovers and 2 highway tunnels. Part of the section together with both tunnels is guided in a full profile. On the Slovak side, this expressway continues as the D3 highway (initially in a half profile), but its completion between Čadca and Brodno is the music of a rather distant future.
