ASTROCRIMINE: Hanno venduto un Meade da 30cm con vetro da finestra!
Astrocrime: When a used telescope becomes an optical nightmare. In this video, I analyze a critical case that every astronomy enthusiast should consider before purchasing a used telescope. I was delivered a 304.8mm (12") f/10 Meade, an instrument that should deliver breathtaking images, but which turned out to be a mechanical and optical disaster. What we discover in this video: The "False" Corrector Plate: A shocking discovery. The original plate, broken due to poorly drilled holes, was replaced with a common commercial glass, 3mm thinner than the original. The "dance of the plate" inside the cell is embarrassing. The incredible thing is that it was machined into shape and treated with anti-reflective coating to simulate the original, but the base material is not optical glass. The inhomogeneity of the glass creates different zonal refractive indices: while the processing is measured in nanometers, the homogeneity of the glass affects the Ångström level. The result? A destroyed wavefront and blurred images, a true hidden defect. Mechanical Nightmare: The telescope was brutally "forked" (removed from its original mount). It was refinished with poorly made, hand-made threads that, along with long screws, caused irreparable chipping. The Optical Test: Even with perfect collimation, the resolution is low. I'll show you the optical resolution test. The blurry image makes the instrument unusable even with a 30mm focal length eyepiece. Anti-reflection Coating: My intervention to try to recover what can be salvaged, from scratches on the secondary to the coating on the internal tube. My advice: Don't blindly trust the promises of sellers or dealers who lack the specific technical expertise. A telescope is a precision instrument, not a piece of furniture. 🔍 Need technical advice before purchasing a used telescope? Don't risk falling victim to "Astrocrime."
