World’s Largest Diesel Engine Installed at Ørsted Power Plant (1933) | Colorized 2K Film
ENGLISH: In 1933, the world’s largest diesel engine was installed at the H.C. Ørsted Power Station in Copenhagen – a monumental achievement in Danish industrial history. The engine, delivered by Burmeister & Wain, measured 24.5 meters long, 12.5 meters high, and weighed an astonishing 1,400 tons. With an output of 15 MW (22,500 horsepower), it provided electricity to the capital and large parts of Zealand during peak demand periods. This massive eight-cylinder engine was built for a plant commissioned by the City of Copenhagen in 1920, and became the beating heart of one of the most advanced power stations of its time. During World War II, the H.C. Ørsted plant also served a secret purpose as a storage site for weapons and supplies used by the Danish resistance. 🎞️ The film has been restored in 4K and features unique footage of the engine’s installation and the power station in operation during the 1930s. 📷 Original footage courtesy of the Danish Film Institute 📌 Subscribe for more restored industrial and technical films from Denmark’s history.
