Abandoned Metrocenter Mall
Metrocenter opened in early 1973; at that time it was the first two-level, five-anchor mall in the U.S., the largest shopping center in Arizona, and was considered one of the largest shopping centers in the United States. 🎦Fun fact: Metrocenter was the filming location for all of the mall scenes in the classic 80s movie “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure”!🎥 The mall started to decline economically in the early 1990s, as the Phoenix area expanded and many of the immediate residential neighborhoods bordering Metrocenter began to decline. After 47 years of service, Metrocenter Mall closed on June 30, 2020, due to low store occupancy levels following the COVID-19 pandemic and rejuvenation projects that failed to boost foot traffic. Mall fixtures were auctioned off on December 3, 2020. Metrocenter is set to be demolished in 2023 as part of a $750 million redevelopment project that will replace the current building with other retail space, apartments, and services. Make sure to have the sound on, I set off a few alarms during my little photo shoot 🚨 🤣 #deadmalls #retailapocalypse #deadretail #dyingmalls #deadmall #deadmallkings #deadmallphotography #deadmallexploration #mallrat #abandonedretail #ripretail #deadmallsofamerica #retailarchaeology #deadmallenthusiasts #urbex #urbexphotography #abandonedplaces #abandoned #abandonedaz #abandonedexploration #abandonedarizona #explorearizona #abandonedstructures #abandonedurbex #urbexvibes #abandonedbuildings
