Repentance: More Than Regret | Pastor Charles Williams Somewhere along the way, the word repentance got shrunk down to "feeling bad about it" — and that is not the word Jesus preached. In Week 5 of our summer series More Than: Recovering the Weight of the Words We Thought We Knew, Pastor Charles Williams opens 2 Corinthians 7:8–11 and recovers the weight of the Greek word metanoia: not a weeping word, but a walking word — a whole change of mind that turns into a whole change of course. Paul says there are two kinds of sorrow: one that sinks you and one that saves you. Sometimes the same tears. Never the same direction. We put Judas next to Peter, follow a boy out of a pigpen and down a long road home, and discover that the man on the corner with the sandwich board had the right word — and the wrong sign. Because Jesus never led with doom. He led with an open door: "The kingdom of God has come near." Regret just stays where it sits.
