We demonstrate how to correctly determine testicular volume (using the ellipsoid of revolution formula vs. Lambert's formula), what to look for when assessing vascularity and focal lesions. Finally, we analyze how the normal appearance of the testicle changes with age – from minipuberty through childhood to adulthood – and discuss the most common incidental findings. This recording is part of the preparatory materials for the in-person course "Ultrasound in Pediatric Endocrinology," which we run in Gdańsk. It also serves as a stand-alone compendium for anyone who performs or plans to perform scrotal ultrasound in children – a normal appearance and examination technique provide the foundation upon which to build diagnostic skills for pathology. 📋 RECORDING SCHEDULE: 0:00 - Introduction 01:43 - Indications for scrotal ultrasound in children 03:44 - Technical aspects (probe, preset, Doppler, gel) 08:04 - Step-by-step patient preparation 10:39 - First probe application - both testicles in one image 12:53 - Longitudinal and transverse sections through the testicle 13:24 - Epididymis and spermatic cord - assessment technique 16:41 - Testicular anatomy on ultrasound (tunica albuginea, intratestis, omentum) 20:26 - Testicular volume measurements and calculation (ellipsoid vs. Lambert) 23:46 - Vascularization and focal lesions 26:55 - Tunica vaginalis, cord, scrotal wall 29:02 - What should be included in an ultrasound report? EBAcademy is a pediatric ultrasound school that we founded with Dr. Jakub Wiśniewski and Dr. Błażej Littwin in Gdańsk. We are pediatricians specializing in ultrasound diagnostics of newborns, infants, and older children. Together, we have performed over 100,000 ultrasound examinations. We conduct in-person pediatric ultrasound courses in small groups (maximum 5 people per assistant), based on current scientific evidence. We also create educational materials—recordings and articles—so that every physician working with children can begin learning ultrasound, regardless of their level of advancement.
