Robert George and Cornel West - Truth Matters, A Civitas Book Talk

Two of America’s most prominent public intellectuals confront the deep divisions in our society by modeling robust, respectful dialogue on questions at the heart of civic life. This event offers a rare opportunity to engage with the vision of truth-seeking as both a personal calling and a civic responsibility. This discussion was held at the William Powers Center on the UT Austin Campus, for the School of Civic Leadership and the Civitas Institute. George is the sixth McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University and Director of Princeton’s James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions, which was founded under his leadership in 2000. George holds honorary visiting professorships in law and public policy at Pepperdine University and has frequently been a Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School. He is a Fellow of the Witherspoon Institute and the American Enterprise Institute. Dr. Cornel West, affectionately known to many as Brother West, is the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chair at Union Theological Seminary. Dr. West teaches on the works of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, as well as courses in Philosophy of Religion, African American Critical Thought, and a wide range of subjects -- including but by no means limited to, the classics, philosophy, politics, cultural theory, literature, and music. He has a passion to communicate to a vast variety of publics in order to keep alive the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. – a legacy of telling the truth and bearing witness to love and justice.
