Somehow, I was invited by Mattel and Amazon MGM Studios to walk the purple carpet for Masters of the Universe, see the movie inside the legendary Chinese Theatre, and experience He-Man, Skeletor, Castle Grayskull, Eternia, and the whole world of MOTU on the big screen. As someone who has been talking about He-Man toys, Masters of the Universe figures, Filmation, Skeletor, Prince Adam, Man-At-Arms, Evil-Lyn, and Castle Grayskull on YouTube for almost 20 years, this was honestly one of the coolest and most surreal experiences of my life. This video is my spoiler-free first reaction to the new Masters of the Universe movie. I’m still under embargo for a full review until June 2nd, so I’m not going into major spoilers here, but I wanted to share my initial thoughts as a lifelong He-Man fan. Is the new He-Man movie good? Does it feel like Masters of the Universe? Does it lean into the classic Filmation cartoon? How does Skeletor work? How does He-Man work? Is Eternia actually in the movie? And should MOTU fans see this in theaters? I talk about the movie’s bright, colorful look, the heavy Filmation influence, the camp, the humor, the action scenes, and why this really does feel like watching action figures come to life. I also share my thoughts on Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. Skeletor was one of my biggest concerns going in, and I’ll just say this: I was very, very happy with what they did. I also talk about the parts that surprised me, including the action, the tone, the family-friendly elements, the few moments that may catch parents off guard, and why I think this is absolutely a movie worth seeing in a theater if you can. There are also three credit scenes; one pre-credit, one mid-credit, and one post-credit and yes, you should stay for all of them. Beyond the movie itself, I also wanted to share what it felt like to walk the Masters of the Universe purple carpet, see Castle Grayskull on the Chinese Theatre, stand in front of the Sword of Power, and be part of a weekend where He-Man felt mainstream again. For longtime MOTU fans, toy collectors, and anyone who grew up with Masters of the Universe, this was a huge moment. This is not my full Masters of the Universe movie review yet. That will come after the embargo lifts. But these are my honest, spoiler-free first thoughts after seeing the new He-Man movie early. Thanks for watching, my friends. Go see Masters of the Universe in theaters, and let me know what you’re hoping to see from He-Man, Skeletor, Eternia, and the future of MOTU.
