Kameshvari Kamakhya || ⸻ Devi Kamakhya, also known as the renowned Goddess of Desire, resides in her sacred shrine atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati, Assam. According to legend, the temple was first built by Kama Deva, the god of erotic love, desire, and pleasure. During the Ambubachi Mela, a unique and powerful ritual takes place, symbolizing the annual menstrual cycle of Goddess Kamakhya. The temple doors remain closed for three days, as it is believed that the goddess undergoes her period — a divine affirmation of fertility and the ongoing cycle of creation. In this artwork, I’ve portrayed Devi Kamakhya through my own creativity and imagination, inspired by the spirit of Ambubachi — not as a strict representation of her scriptural form. The “Yoni Mudra” shown here signifies her deep connection to the Yoni (vagina), symbolizing Creation, Preservation, and the sacred feminine power.
