World Famous AGRA ki Bedai, Petha, Dalmoth, Gajak, Magode, Malai Samosa, Gujiya aur Kalakand
Join us on an immersive journey through the bustling streets of Agra with our host Ritik, Founder of Trocals Travel Company. Let me take you through the culinary treasures we discovered on this journey. Bedai or urad dal stuffed thick and coarse textured puri is a traditional breakfast item in this part of the country so we decided to start our tour with it at Deviram Sweets. We tried it with aalu ki sabzi and each bite was a simple, familiar yet delightful symphony of textures and tastes. We followed it with jalebi and dahi while Ritik opted for jalebi and sabzi. Both turned out to be a great combination. Next stop was Munnalal Agarwal Pethe Wale for a sweet whose roots are from this city. Here we first witnessed the making of this iconic ash gourd based sweet which was quite a labour intensive task and then moved on to taste an assortment of different flvaoured petha. Each juicy bite transported us to a world of sensory delight. To cut down the excessive sweetness of the petha we had some dalmoth which happens to be another favourite snack of Agra. Our next destination was Manohar Lal Daulat Ram Gajak Wale. They sell different kinds of gajak, sesame seeds and groundnut based confections, round the year. The assortment that we tried surprised us by its perfect balance of crunchiness and sweetness. Next we went to Bedariya Lal Shikanji Stall for a refreshing glass of lemon soda. This was to give a break to our eating spree and get ready for the next ones. At Hiralal Raja Babu Sweets, we couldn't resist trying their malai samosa, rabri and khurchan amidst many other tempting sweets. Each of them scored high on taste and once could feel the purity of the ingredients used. Thereafter we headed to Shri Mankameshwar Temple for tasting Kalakand that is offered as prasad. The sticky sweetness of this treat, which resembles a milk cake, from one of the numerous shops left a lasting impression on our palate. Next was the turn of Daresi Wale Mangode. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, these lentil fritters were a savory delight, perfect for those mid-day cravings. We tried an assortment of vegetable based magode and loved the kick of mustard oil in which those were fried. The last stop was Gopal Das Pethe Wale. This swanky sweet and snacks shop with multiple outlets was a delight to visit. Here we tried malai roll, gujiya, chana burfi, mawa bati and malai puri amidst which the chana barfi stole our hearts. This tour was truly a gluttonous affair which we thoroughly enjoyed.
