Alan Morinis, Dean of the Mussar Institute, on What is Mussar
What is Mussar? Alan Morinis, Dean and Founder of The Mussar Institute, explains that Mussar means “instruction,” but it really means much more. Mussar is meant to help a person understand their “inner life” and how to consciously change, to bring oneself closer to the ideals of the Jewish tradition; those ideals are to be more compassionate, generous, kind, strong, etc. Above all else is the instruction in the Torah to be holy. Mussar provides a pathway to holiness. Each individual person has inner qualities (middot) that allow us to climb the ladder of holiness. Mussar is a guide to developing those inner qualities and working on our own, unique spiritual curriculum. Learn more about the Mussar Institute: http://mussarinstitute.org/
