Tony Evans on Kingdom Living, Grief & Finishing Well

Sitting down with Dr. Tony Evans was honestly surreal for me. Long before podcasts and YouTube, his voice was one of the first that helped me see how big the Kingdom of God really is. As a young believer driving around Houston listening to The Urban Alternative, I was being shaped by his preaching in ways I didn’t fully understand at the time. In this conversation, we talk about the influences that formed Dr. Evans early on, how the “Kingdom Agenda” began to take shape, and why preaching must be both deeply biblical and deeply relevant to the real world people are living in. We also talk about courageous leadership in chaotic times, the importance of finishing well, and what it looks like to keep running hard after decades in ministry. One of the most meaningful parts of our conversation was hearing Dr. Evans talk about grief, loss, and the sustaining grace of God after the death of his wife Lois and several members of his family. His honesty about suffering, faith, and perseverance was deeply encouraging to me personally. We also discuss his latest book Unleashed and the call for Christians to stop living passive, bored lives and instead embrace the reality that we’ve been uniquely wired and uniquely placed by God to push back darkness and reflect His Kingdom in the world around us.
