Is Erias Lukwago Still Alive? Fear and Questions Grow, Sseggona Warns.

After the shocking abduction of former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago on the orders of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba yesterday, a cloud of fear and uncertainty now hangs over the country. The anxiety deepened after Muhoozi himself shared disturbing photos of Lukwago blindfolded and in detention, while appearing to boast about his captivity on social media. Now, a question is spreading across Uganda and dominating online discussions: Is Erias Lukwago still alive? Lukwago's lawyer, Medard Lubega Sseggona, has publicly expressed concern about the condition of his client. Those fears are not without reason. Lukwago has long battled health challenges and underwent major surgery in India last year. His health has never fully returned to normal, making the images of him blindfolded and reportedly held in harsh conditions even more alarming. For many Ugandans, the photographs released after his detention were not merely political propaganda—they were deeply unsettling. A man known for his fierce legal and political battles appeared vulnerable, isolated and at the mercy of those holding him. As speculation continues to spread across social media, some voices have gone as far as fearing the worst. Others are demanding proof that Lukwago is safe and receiving the medical attention he may require. What has shocked many observers is not only the detention itself, but the apparent celebration of it. In any society governed by the rule of law, critics argue, political disagreements should be settled in courts and public debate—not through abductions, intimidation and public humiliation. The country now waits anxiously for answers. Where exactly is Erias Lukwago? What condition is he in?
