Le mogli di Enrico VIII: Caterina d'Aragona

#tudor #henryVIII #tudordynasty Catherine of Aragon, daughter of the Spanish monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella of Castile. She came to England to marry Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales, son of Henry VII of England and heir to the English throne. After Arthur's death, she married her brother-in-law and new king Henry, with the papal dispensation previously obtained from Julius II. From their union was born Mary, the future Bloody Mary. Catherine's failure to provide the king with a male heir led Henry to believe the marriage was cursed by God. Thus, infatuated with Anne Boleyn, Catherine's lady-in-waiting, he decided to divorce the church, sparking the Anglican schism. He married Anne and repudiated Catherine, accusing and humiliating her. After living the last years of her life in prayer and suffering, during which she was never allowed to see her daughter Maria again, Catherine died on January 7, 1536. ------------------------------ If you'd like to stay updated on the channel's activities or other historical curiosities, you can also find me on: Instagram:   / scioglierei.  .
