However, they didn't know who it belonged to. The suspect had no prior criminal record, and his profile wasn't found in police databases. The breakthrough came thanks to genetic genealogy. Instead of looking for a direct match, investigators found people related to the trace's owner. For approximately two years, they reconstructed family trees, analyzed vital records, ages, residences, and connections to Gdynia. This is how they traced the man to a specific individual. On July 21, 2026, 37-year-old Michał S., who was 22 at the time of the murder and lived near Iza's home, was arrested. Biological material collected from him was independently analyzed in two laboratories. Both analyses confirmed a match between his DNA profile and the traces recovered in 2011. The man pleaded guilty to the charges but declined to provide detailed explanations. He was remanded in custody. His guilt will ultimately be decided by the court.
