Crewe Coal Yard Signalbox

Crewe Coal Yard Signalbox controls the section of line from Crewe out towards WINSFORD and the absolute block lines leading into the station Dive under used for freight avoiding the main station lines using the Independent lines. The box was built to an LMS design during the Second World War and so has many of the air raid precautions designs such as built in blast walls against doors and brick and concrete construction. We take a short look at some of the services that operate through here on a busy Friday afternoon including the Midland Pullman operation and we would like to thanks our colleagues at Network Rail for showing us about and a special thank you to our signaller for talking us through the cabins operation. Of is interest to note is the on trial Smartlock Installation which at the time of the visit had according to the paperwork been in test for eight years running a test signal and some other items.
