🇧🇴¡Increíble! Fe y fiesta entre la diablada, morenada, caporales y más - Carnaval de Oruro, Bolivia

The Oruro Carnival is special because it unites faith and celebration. It has been recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity and has positioned itself as one of the largest in the world. In this video, I show you how I experienced it in 2020 and tell you what you need to know so you can enjoy it too. After several days traveling through La Paz and Uyuni, my cousin and I arrived in Oruro with great anticipation. We spent Carnival Friday exploring the city and learning more about the history of Carnival, which is basically divided into two main days. Carnival Saturday celebrates the Virgin of Candelaria, who in Oruro is called the Virgin of the Socavón after the mine where she is located. Dancers make a four-kilometer pilgrimage to her sanctuary, passing through the important Avenida 6 de Agosto and Avenida Cívica, among others. Sunday is a completely pagan day, where the goal is to have fun without thinking about church, more similar to the rest of the world. My reaction to this trip was very special, and I hope to return in the future. The most important feature of Carnival is its dances, especially the Diablada. The Diablada was the dance that started the tradition of dancing toward the Virgin, and later other dances came, such as La Morenada, Los Caporales, Los Tinkus, and more.
