Chinese manufacturers are no longer observing the European market: they're attacking it head-on. And the Geely Group—owner of Volvo, Lotus, and Polestar—is officially debuting in Italy with the new Geely Starray EMI. It's a 4.74-meter-long, almost two-meter-wide plug-in hybrid SUV with 262 system horsepower and an 18.4 kWh LFP battery integrated into the structure (cell-to-body technology). It promises 83 km of electric range and up to 943 km of total range, with DC charging also available—a rarity for a PHEV. Inside, it impresses with its build quality, extensive equipment, and meticulously crafted materials. The EMI Super Hybrid system operates smoothly in urban driving, while in Power mode it uses both engines to deliver performance appropriate to the segment. Not everything is perfect: the trunk is smaller than advertised, the ride is soft on rough terrain, and some ADAS systems are intrusive. But the price completely changes the perspective: it starts at €34,900, up to €37,900 for the Launch Edition (on promotion at the same price as the base model for early adopters). It costs up to €15,000-20,000 less than rivals like the Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid, and Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid.
