Igbo have always been the identity of Anioma people before Bini kingdom came into existence.

The Anioma people are an Igbo-speaking ethnic group indigenous to Delta North in present-day Delta State, Nigeria. Throughout Nigeria's political history, Anioma has been part of the Western Region, Mid-Western Region, Bendel State, and today Delta State in the South South geopolitical zone. These administrative changes did not erase the Anioma people's language, culture, traditions, or historical identity. Anioma communities share the Igbo language (through various Anioma dialects), cultural heritage, customs, traditional institutions, festivals, and ancestral ties with other Igbo communities across southeastern Nigeria. While centuries of interaction with neighboring peoples, including the historic Benin Kingdom, influenced aspects of politics, trade, and culture in some areas, the Anioma people have maintained their distinct identity as an Igbo-speaking people. Today, many Anioma people proudly identify as both Anioma and Igbo, recognizing their unique regional heritage while affirming their place within the broader Igbo nation (Ndị Igbo).
